I am writing as a constituent and member of The Borgen Project, a non-profit organisation fighting to end global poverty by building nonpartisan support for life-saving initiatives. As part of the newly formed UK Chapter of the organisation, the primary legislation we are working on is the UK’s Official Development Assistance (ODA). The four objectives are: strengthening global peace, security and governance; strengthening resilience and response to crises; promoting global prosperity; and tackling extreme poverty and helping the world’s most vulnerable.

With the UK’s current political landscape being dominated by the ongoing war in Ukraine, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the cost-of-living crisis, we must ensure that the focus is not diverted away from those who need it most – those living in extreme poverty.

The Official Development Assistance (ODA) legislation is an important part of stabilising the future for these individuals, and an important step to opening new markets for UK companies.

As a local constituent, I personally hope I can count on your support for this legislation in Parliament and beyond.
